Meat, eggs and milk offer crucial sources of much-needed nutrients which cannot easily be obtained from plant-based foods. This is particularly vital during key life stages such as pregnancy and lactation, childhood, adolescence and older age. Those are among the findings of a new report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO),
[Contribution of terrestrial animal source food to healthy diets for improved nutrition and health outcomes](https://doi.org/10.4060/cc3912en), which will be released on 25 April2023at 10:00 CEST.
The report is the most comprehensive analysis yet of the benefits and risks of consuming animal source foods and is based on data and evidence from more than 500 scientific papers and some 250 policy documents.
As to risks from consuming animalsourcefood, the report indicates significant differences between processed red meat on the one hand and unprocessed red meat and milk, eggs and poultry on the other.
The report will be available [here](https://doi.org/10.4060/cc3912en)from 10:00 CEST on April 25 and there will be a launch at a side event of the FAO Council at 12.30 CEST, with opening remarks by FAO Deputy Director-General Maria Helena Semedoandincluding presentations by key contributors to the report and a panel discussion with a range of stakeholders.
