Thank you, Mr. Vice President.
Thank you, Special Representative for your presentation today.
Abuses against children in armed conflict reflect a global crisis and one that the United States is committed to stamping out. We must protect future generations from conflict and foster an international system where innocent lives are not shattered by the brutality of combat.
The Special Representative notes that enhancing partnerships with civil society organizations and academia to raise global awareness and build partnerships continue to be priorities. The United States remains committed to addressing the effects of armed conflict on children, and we support partnering with all levels of society to end abuses against children in armed conflict.
We remain deeply concerned about the plight of children in Ukraine, including reports that Russia’s government has separated at least 6,000 of Ukraine’s children from their families for indoctrination and, in some cases, forced adoption since the start of Russia’s unprovoked and illegal war.
Madam Special Representative, your report calls for long-term, holistic reintegration programs for children associated with armed forces or armed groups. Are there specific mechanisms you would recommend for the successful reintegration of these children, and how can we help achieve this?
I thank you.
