Debate with Presidents Michel and von der Leyen ahead of the spring summit
From 9.00 to 11.00, MEPs will assess the outcome of the extraordinary 9 February EU summit and outline their priorities for the spring European Council (23-24 March) in a debate with Charles Michel and Ursula von der Leyen. The latest developments in Russia’s war against Ukraine and the EU’s continued support for Ukraine are likely to feature prominently, as will the EU action to enhance competitiveness and growth and energy-related issues.

Commemoration of International Women’s Day
Parliament will mark International Women’s Day (8 March) at 11.00, with addresses by Iranian Nobel Peace Prize laureate Shirin Ebadi and Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, followed by a round of interventions by political groups. In a separate debate around 16.00 with Commissioner Dalli and Swedish Minister for EU Affairs Roswall, MEPs will look into the situation of activists working in the area of sexual and reproductive health and rights.

EU plans to end deaths at sea and open legal migration pathways
Starting around 16.00, plenary will take stock of solidarity and responsibility sharing in Europe as regards migration and asylum policy, in the wake of the tragic shipwreck off the coast of Italy, in which at least 70 people drowned. MEPs will quiz Swedish Minister for EU Affairs Roswall and Commissioner Johansson on the progress towards the reform of the common EU migration and asylum rules, as well as measures to prevent irregular departures and loss of life.
Strengthening EU Defence in the context of the war in Ukraine
In a debate at around 15.00, MEPs will discuss with Commissioner McGuiness and Swedish Minister for EU Affairs Roswall how to speed up production and deliveries of weapons and ammunitions to Ukraine.
In brief:
Alleged poisoning of school girls in Iran. In the evening, MEPs will discuss the cases of suspected poisoning of school girls in Iran, being reported across the country since last November. A plenary resolution will be put to the vote on Thursday.
Failure of the Silicon Valley Bank. In a debate around 14.00, MEPs will quiz Commissioner McGuiness about the collapse of the Silicon Valley Bank and its implications for financial stability in Europe.
Reforming the Commission’s internal rules. Starting around 17.00, plenary will look into the need for the Commission to review its internal rules to ensure transparency and accountability, in view of recent revelations about alleged conflicts of interest.
Votes
Between 12.00 and 13.00, MEPs will vote, among others, on:
– Parliament’s input on the European Semester for economic policy coordination, including on employment and social measures;
– the implementation of the Brexit agreement;
– an adequate minimum income ensuring active inclusion;
– the repression against the people of Belarus;
– two resolutions on EU relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan;
– new rules on law enforcement information exchange, and
– the functioning of the European External Action Service and a stronger EU in the world.
