Hofstra University’s student-run communication agency, The Swing Agency, was selected by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the national organization for public relations professionals, to promote its latest campaign, Voices4Everyone.
“Public relations students are all quite familiar with PRSA; they learn about the organization from their first course at Hofstra,” said Victoria Semple, associate professor at the Herbert School. “For The Swing Agency to be chosen as the first student-run communication agency to work on this campaign and having the opportunity to strategize with PRSA leadership, build the campaign, and execute the social media rollout was a rewarding, full-circle experience for the students.”
Voices4Everyone is an initiative from the PRSA meant to emphasize the responsibility that communicators have in advancing the good of the public. It aims to create, nurture, and facilitate an atmosphere among communications professionals that supports truthful, accurate, and honest communications and leverage the strategic expertise and influencer abilities of communications professionals to imagine environments where public relations and informed decision-making can thrive.
“While I had the background of developing campaigns in other public relations classes, this was the first time I had the ability to apply strategies to a real client,” said Gillian Santos, ’22. “Being an account supervisor on this campaign allowed me to navigate working professionally with clients and running an effective campaign.”
The Swing Agency is run as a class in the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication that provides students with hands-on agency experience. This year, students developed a month-long social media campaign to discourage the spread of disinformation, one of the pillars of the Voices4Everyone initiatives.
