Committee and political group meetings
COP30.* A Parliament delegation will attend the 30th United Nations climate conference taking place in Belém, Brazil. MEPs will stress that all sectors must play a part in reducing emissions and achieving climate neutrality, and will push for all countries to contribute their fair share towards providing adequate climate finance. MEPs will also advocate in favour of ending fossil fuel dependence, phasing out related subsidies and accelerating the energy transition (Monday to Friday)/.
First EU Parliamentary Democracy Forum. *Parliament is hosting the first EU Parliamentary Democracy Forum, bringing together members of national and EU parliaments to discuss ways to reinforce democratic systems, including the recently proposed European Democracy Shield, designed to counter election interference and strengthen EU resilience. EP President Roberta Metsola will open the event with Danish Parliament Speaker Søren Gade and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Maria Ressa (Wednesday)/.
Plenary preparations.* Political groups will be preparing for the 24-27 November plenary session, where MEPs will discuss how to react to China’s rare earth export restrictions, and debate and vote on the safety of toys to protect children’s health, how to protect children and adolescents online, the 2026 EU budget and the EU’s post-2024 strategy for the rights of persons with disabilities. They will also vote on a resolution on Hungary and the country’s breaches of EU values, on simplifying reporting requirements for the InvestEU programme, and on strengthening Europol’s capacity to combat migrant smuggling and human trafficking.
Pre-session press briefing*. Parliament’s Press Service will hold a press briefing with the political group spokespersons at 11.00 on Friday/ (Anna Politkovskaya room, press centre, Brussels).
President’s diary*. On Monday, /European Parliament President Roberta Metsola will meet the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb. On Wednesday/, she will address the first gathering of the EU Parliamentary Democracy Forum, before presiding over the Conference of Presidents meeting with European Council President Antonio Costa.
