The Week Ahead: Key Events and Meetings
23-29 June 2025
Summer session of the Parliamentary Assembly (PACE)
23-27 June, Strasbourg – The award ceremony for the Vigdís Prize for Women’s Empowerment and speeches by the Prime Minister of Malta Robert Abela and the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia Gordan Grlić Radman will be among the highlights of the upcoming session.
Three urgent debates – “Women’s rights in Europe : Progress and challenges”, “Halting the genocide in Gaza: The Council of Europe must act now” and “The urgent need to put an end to the war in Gaza” – and two current affairs debates have been requested; one on “A call for the immediate release of Zurab Japaridze, Nika Melia and other persons facing politically motivated persecution in Georgia”, and a second on “Attempts to undermine the European Convention on Human Rights and to attack the independence and impartiality of the European Court of Human Rights through political interference”.
Other debates are scheduled on the legal and human rights aspects of the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine; on political negotiations to enforce exchange and release of prisoners of war; on social mobilisation, social unrest and police reaction in Council of Europe member states; on inclusive participation in parliamentary life; on protecting human rights in and through sport; and on the Olympic movement and peacekeeping.
The Assembly will adopt its final agenda on the first day of the session.

24 June, Strasbourg – The European Court of Human Rights will notify in writing ten judgments concerning Azerbaija, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Hungary, Malta, North Macedonia, Romania and Serbia.
The team will meet representatives from the Sport department of the Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports and representatives from the sport movement including the Olympic and Paralympic Committees, sports federations, non-organised sport, athletes, the private sector and others. These meetings will be complemented by visits to sports facilities such as the Athens Olympic Stadium, Zappeion and Serafion. Following the visit, a half-day awareness raising workshop on sport governance, co-organised by the International Olympic Committee and EPAS, hosted by the Hellenic Olympic Committee, with the support of the Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports will take place on 27 June. This workshop aims to raise awareness of the International Partnership against Corruption in Sport (IPACS) benchmark and its guidelines, and to encourage its implementation within the Greek sports community.
26 June, Strasbourg – The European Court of Human Rights will notify in writing 18 judgments and/or decisions concerning Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Italy, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain and Ukraine.
