Council of Europe Congress President on official visit to Armenia
During his visit, the President will hold bilateral meetings with the President of the Republic of Armenia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, and the Mayor of Yerevan. The exchanges will offer an opportunity to discuss preparations for the new law on local self-government and how to encourage democratic innovation and engage citizens and restore their trust in democracy. The visit will serve to reaffirm the Council of Europe’s continued support to democratic reforms in Armenia and efforts to reinforce stability at the regional level.
The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities is an institution of the Council of Europe, responsible for strengthening local and regional democracy in its 46 member states. Composed of two chambers – the Chamber of Local Authorities and the Chamber of Regions – and three committees, it brings together 612 elected officials representing more than 130 000 local and regional authorities.
