Vitomir Popović, the head of the working group tasked with drafting the new Constitution of Republika Srpska, stated that the new document should not include amendments imposed by high representatives.
According to Popović, the constitutional revision presents an opportunity to address the issue of institutions that were transferred to the central level of Bosnia and Herzegovina, some of which, he claims, have been misused or failed to deliver the expected results.
“Our priority is to ensure that the new Constitution reflects the will and interests of the people of Republika Srpska, without external interference. The amendments imposed in the past by high representatives were often adopted without democratic consent and must be reconsidered,” Popović said.
He also emphasized that the new Constitution should strengthen Republika Srpska’s autonomy within Bosnia and Herzegovina, establishing a clear legal framework for the functioning of local institutions.
Popović’s statements come at a time of increasing political tension in the country, as Republika Srpska continues to push for greater independence from decisions imposed by the international community.
