(AGENPARL) - Roma, 23 Giugno 2026 - A Dublino, il presidente Metsola e i leader dei gruppi politici del Parlamento europeo hanno discusso le priorità e gettato le basi per una solida cooperazione in vista della presidenza irlandese del Consiglio, che inizierà il 1° luglio.
La Conferenza dei Presidenti – composta dai leader dei gruppi politici e dalla Presidente del Parlamento europeo Roberta Metsola – si è riunita a Dublino il 23 giugno per discutere le priorità in vista della presidenza irlandese del Consiglio dell’Unione europea.
I vertici del Parlamento europeo hanno inoltre incontrato la Presidente irlandese Catherine Connolly e hanno avuto l’opportunità di visitare Áras an Uachtaráin (la residenza del Presidente) nel Phoenix Park di Dublino.
Insieme al Taoiseach Micheál Martin, ai ministri del governo e ai membri di spicco delle Camere dell’Oireachtas, la Conferenza dei Presidenti ha discusso una serie di priorità sia per il Parlamento che per la prossima presidenza irlandese, tra cui la competitività e la tabella di marcia “Un’Europa, un mercato unico”, il prossimo bilancio a lungo termine dell’UE, le relazioni esterne, l’allargamento e questioni più ampie relative ai valori e alla sicurezza dell’UE. I proficui primi scambi con i membri del Dáil Éireann e del Seanad Éireann aprono la strada a importanti incontri interparlamentari previsti durante la presidenza irlandese.
Nel Castello di Dublino, tali questioni e l’importanza della Presidenza irlandese furono ulteriormente discusse con i ministri del governo.
I membri hanno anche interagito con i giovani a Croke Park, sede della Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), dove sono stati accolti da un comitato della GAA e hanno appreso il significato culturale degli sport nazionali per le comunità in Irlanda e nel mondo.
Nel corso di una conferenza stampa congiunta, la Presidente del Parlamento europeo Roberta Metsola e il Taoiseach hanno entrambi sottolineato l’ambizione dell’Irlanda di raggiungere risultati concreti in termini di competitività e il nostro impegno verso i valori condivisi.
“ I nostri colloqui a Dublino hanno confermato che l’Irlanda assume la presidenza del Consiglio in un momento decisivo per l’Europa. Con una forte attenzione alla prosperità, alla sicurezza e ai nostri valori fondamentali, l’Irlanda è nella posizione ideale per aiutare l’Europa a ottenere risultati concreti dove conta di più: rafforzare la nostra competitività, promuovere l’allargamento e concordare un bilancio adeguato a una nuova era ”, ha dichiarato il Presidente Metsola.
“ Collaborare a stretto contatto con il Parlamento europeo è fondamentale per una presidenza di successo. Sono stato lieto di accogliere a Dublino il Presidente Metsola e i leader dei gruppi politici per discutere le priorità della presidenza irlandese del Consiglio dell’Unione europea, che inizierà il 1° luglio. Abbiamo discusso dell’ambiziosa tabella di marcia ‘Un’Europa, un mercato unico’, nonché del nostro impegno a continuare a sostenere l’Ucraina, delle prospettive di allargamento dell’UE e dell’importanza di salvaguardare i valori fondamentali su cui si basa l’Unione europea ”, ha dichiarato il Taoiseach Micheál Martin.
“ So che sotto la guida dell’Irlanda, l’Europa continuerà ad andare avanti con fiducia, unità e determinazione ”, ha aggiunto il Presidente Metsola.
L’Irlanda deterrà la presidenza di turno del Consiglio per l’ottava volta, dal 1° luglio al 31 dicembre 2026, dopodiché la presidenza passerà alla Lituania.
Il Taoiseach Micheál Martin si rivolgerà alla plenaria e presenterà il programma di presidenza irlandese ai deputati europei a Strasburgo il 7 luglio. Come di consueto, i ministri irlandesi incontreranno anche le commissioni parlamentari per illustrare le priorità del Paese per i sei mesi di presidenza.
Che cos’è la Conferenza dei Presidenti?
La Conferenza dei Presidenti del Parlamento europeo è l’organo politico responsabile dell’organizzazione e del coordinamento dei lavori del Parlamento.
Tradizionalmente, la Conferenza dei Presidenti si reca nel Paese che si appresta ad assumere la presidenza di turno del Consiglio dell’UE, al fine di avviare discussioni preparatorie e garantire una comprensione condivisa, nonché azioni congiunte, sulle priorità future.

| The Conference of Presidents – political group leaders as well as the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola – were in Dublin on 23 June to discuss priorities ahead of the Irish presidency of the Council of the European Union.The EP leadership also held meetings with Ireland’s President Catherine Connolly and had the opportunity to visit Áras an Uachtaráin in Dublin’s Phoenix Park.Together with An Taoiseach Micheál Martin, government ministers and lead members of the Houses of the Oireachtas, the Conference of Presidents discussed a number of priorities for both the Parliament and the forthcoming Irish presidency – including competitiveness and the One Europe, One Market roadmap, the next EU long-term budget, external relations, enlargement and broader issues relating to EU values and security.
