Secretary General to discuss threats to democratic security in Yerevan
4-5 May, Yerevan (Armenia) – Secretary General ( , Alain Berset, will travel to Yerevan to the 8th European Political Community Summit ( . He will participate in the roundtable on democratic resilience and hybrid threats. His intervention will focus on foreign information manipulation and interference as a serious threat to democratic and national security and on the need for a concerted response, including a suitable legal basis. The Secretary General will also hold bilateral meetings to reinforce the Council of Europe's role in democratic security and stability in the South Caucasus and beyond. Accountability for Ukraine will be on the agenda as well, including the Council of Europe's work on the Special Tribunal ( and on compensation for those affected by Russia's war of aggression, through the Register of Damage ( and the International Claims Commission. (
On 5 May, the Secretary General will participate in the opening of the Yerevan Dialogue ( , a political forum that will discuss ways to address shared challenges facing Europe and its wider neighbourhood.

Official visit by Secretary General Alain Berset to North Macedonia
7-8 May, Skopje (North Macedonia) – The Secretary General ( of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, will make an official visit to North Macedonia. He will meet with the country's highest officials, members of parliament, representatives of civil society organisations and youth. Throughout the visit, the Secretary General will highlight North Macedonia's key role in supporting the New Democratic Pact for Europe ( , aimed at countering democratic backsliding, disinformation, and threats to the rules-based order through collective action and consultation. The Secretary General also will take part in a regional ministerial conference: Leading Change: People-Centred Paths to Demographic Resilience ( and attend the ceremony marking North Macedonia's signature of the Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law ( .
