Bike Parking Program 2025
The City of Sacramento’s Bike Parking Program makes it easier for residents to choose active transportation to travel by installing secure and convenient bike racks throughout the city.
Currently, there are over 8,000 available bike parking spaces- most of which are located in the central city. Staff are continuously working towards expanding the network to all corners of the City. Often, bike racks are installed on sidewalks or other public right of way, but the City also offers on-street bike parking corrals outside of qualifying businesses. The City also has a pilot to install bike parking on private property in disadvantaged areas of the city that lack bike parking.
Throughout 2025, an additional 48 bike racks were installed, which include staff identified locations and resident requests through the 311 app and Active Transportation website. These installations reflect the ongoing commitment to help the City reach its mobility and climate goals, while responding to community input.
Explore the full Bike Parking Program’s 2025 update provided to the Active Transportation Commission to discover what’s next for expanding bike access throughout Sacramento and how you can help make it a bike-friendly city.

Great: U Lock (or D Lock)
Good: Heavy-duty chain w/ Padlock
Okay: Cable Lock
2) Choose the Right Location: Deter theft by locking your bike in a well-lit, central area with high visibility and movement.Avoid locking your bike to fences or posts that can easily be removed or broken.
Avoid leaving your bike locked in places that may impact ADA accessible paths of travel and pedestrian mobility.
Always remove and safely store any bike lights and speedometers.
Parking overnight? Use a Secure Parking Area (SPA) or bring it indoors.
