The Week Ahead: Key Events and Meetings

First Council of Europe Business and Human Rights Forum
Sport and Intergenerational Challenges for Young People and Older Persons: EPAS Diversity Conference 2025
The conference will explore how sport can be used to bridge generational divides and promote the health and empowerment of both young people and older persons. Experts, public authorities, and civil society organisations will present innovative initiatives that promote active lifestyles across all ages and foster greater solidarity between generations.
The event will be opened by Hanne Juncher, Director of Security, Integrity and Rule of Law at the Council of Europe, and Solène Charuau, Chair of the EPAS Governing Board. The spotlight session will feature Jean-Michel Oprendek, senior sport expert and former Technical Director of the French Fencing Federation, and Ana Japaridze, Paralympic medallist and European Youth Games champion.

20-22 October, Diyarbakir and Ankara (Türkiye) – As part of the Council of Europe Visibility Week two events will take place: a Regional Meeting on “Violation Judgments on Individual Application and Elimination of the Consequences of Violations” in courts of general jurisdiction and administrative justice on 20-21 October, which will bring together members of the Turkish Constitutional Court with representatives of the Regional Court of Appeal, administrative courts and first-instance courts from the Southeastern Anatolia region, and, on 22 October, a lecture at Bilkent University focusing on the principle of non-refoulement in the light of the case law of the European Court of Human Rights and the Turkish Constitutional Court.
These events will constitute an important contribution to the Council of Europe Visibility Week, further raising awareness of the Council of Europe’s work in Türkiye and of the activities of the Council of Europe Programme Office in Ankara.
The conference will be opened by representatives of the Council of Europe Office in Sarajevo, the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
The event starts at 09:30. Media are invited to take brief quotes from keynote speakers at 09:15. The working languages are Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian and English (simultaneous translation is provided).
21 October, Strasbourg – The European Court of Human Rights will notify in writing three judgments concerning Denmark and North Macedonia.
The forum will bring together over 300 participants, including representatives from Council of Europe member states, leaders of the 49 cultural routes, representatives of universities affiliated to the programme, as well as cultural heritage scholars and practitioners. Recognising landscapes as repositories of natural, living, tangible and intangible heritage, the event will emphasise the role of cultural routes in safeguarding heritage through sustainable, even transformative, cultural tourism practices.
A press conference is scheduled at 1 pm on 22 October with officials from Türkiye and Council of Europe Head of Department for Democratic Institutions and Freedoms, Irena Guidikova.
23 October, Strasbourg – The European Court of Human Rights will notify in writing 77 judgments and/or decisions concerning Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Türkiye and Ukraine.
