Clean Industrial Deal: vote on a resolution*
At noon, plenary will vote on a resolution on the Clean Industrial Deal initiative presented by the Commission in February. MEPs propose a range of measures to boost industrial competitiveness, including regulatory simplification, accelerated permitting procedures, and a push in favour of permanent carbon removals to support sustainability efforts.
Welfare of cats and dogs: vote on EU’s first ever rules*
MEPs will vote at noon on draft legislation on standards for the breeding, housing, and handling of dogs and cats. Matters covered by the new rules include: microchipping and registration; imports for both commercial and non-commercial purposes; inbreeding; time between pregnancies; and minimum weaning periods. The text as voted will form Parliament’s position for negotiations with the Council and the Commission.
EU enlargement process*
At 9:00, MEPs will discuss the institutional and political implications of the EU enlargement process against the backdrop of the current global geo-political challenges. They will be joined in the debate by Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva.
In brief*
United Kingdom*. At around 10:00, MEPs will quiz Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva on the UK’s accession to the 2019 Hague Judgments Convention [10] . The convention seeks to facilitate the recognition and enforcement of court decisions in civil and commercial matters among its parties. A resolution will be put to a vote at noon.
Protecting bees*. At 15:00, MEPs will discuss ways to advance the EU’s New Deal for Pollinators [11] with Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva. The initiative was first presented by the Commission in January 2023.
Votes*
At noon, MEPs will also vote on:
-motions for resolutions on media freedom in Georgia; the case of Ahmadreza Jalali in Iran; and the dissolution of political parties and the crackdown on the opposition in Mali; and
-a resolution on improving the resilience of electricity grids.
