Global Asbestos Awareness Week is coming
Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW) runs from 1 to 7 April.
GAAW provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the risks of asbestos and how to protect yourself and others, and to check that your asbestos management plan is up to date.
If you’re a tradesperson, you’re likely to encounter asbestos during your work at some point.
Our Asbestos and You campaign [ https://workright.campaign.gov.uk/campaigns/asbestos ] provides essential advice to help you stay safe. Resources include our free ‘quick guide for trades’ where you can learn what to watch out for, and what to do should you come across it.
If you’re responsible for maintenance and repair of non-domestic buildings such as offices, factories, schools and public buildings, you may have the legal duty to manage asbestos.

Fines issued after worker dies from 20-foot fall
A company and its operations manager have both been fined after a man fell to his death through a roof on-site.
The worker was removing a redundant steel cleaning machine but stepped onto a fragile roof and fell more than 20 feet to the floor below, suffering fatal injuries.
HSE’s investigation found that:
* there was no suitable and sufficient risk assessment made for the work at height activities
* the work was not properly organised, planned, appropriately supervised or carried out in a safe manner
* the workers were not trained for working at height when the incident occurred

Join us at the Health and Safety Event
