International Day of Epidemic Preparedness
The International Day of Epidemic Preparedness [https://www.un.org/en/observances/epidemic-preparedness-day] was established in 2020 by the United Nations General Assembly to raise awareness about the importance of preventing, preparing for, and responding to epidemics. The day serves as a powerful reminder of the devastating global impact of epidemics, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, and underscores the urgent need for strong public health systems, international cooperation and equitable access to healthcare.
WHO works closely with governments [https://www.who.int/activities/strengthening-national-emergency-preparedness] to support efforts to build strong emergency and epidemic preparedness systems, as part of an overall approach to advance universal health coverage and strengthen primary health care systems.
