G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Italy
(Overview of “Ukraine” session)
On November 26, commencing at 9:30 a.m. (5:30 p.m. on the same day, Japan Time) for approximately 90 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Fiuggi, Italy to attend the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, participated in the “Ukraine” session. The overview is as follows. G7 Foreign Ministers and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, as well as H.E. Mr. Andrii SYBIHA, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, participated in this session.
1. Minister Iwaya stated that Japan’s steadfast commitment to stand with Ukraine remains unchanged under the Ishiba administration, and that Japan will continue robust support for Ukraine as well as severe sanctions against Russia.
2. Minister Iwaya also stated that he had visited Kyiv, where he renewed his resolve that any unilateral attempt to change the status quo by force is unacceptable anywhere in the world, and emphasized the importance of winterization support and assistance in the energy sector of Ukraine, while also referring to the recent large-scale attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
3. Minister Iwaya expressed his serious concern about the deployment of North Korea’s troops to Russia and their engagement in combat, strongly condemned Russia’s missile attacks, and stated that Japan would like to work in collaboration among the G7 members on this issue.
4. G7 Foreign Ministers once again concurred that the G7 will work together to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
