Signing of the U.S.-Latvia Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement
Media Note
September 4, 2024
On September 4 in Riga, Latvia, the United States and the Republic of Latvia signed the Agreement Between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of the Republic of Latvia on Scientific and Technological Cooperation. The Agreement will expand cooperation in science and technology and deepen the vital partnership between the United States and Latvia.
The Scientific and Technological Cooperation Agreement notes our mutual pledge to facilitate dynamic and effective international cooperation, our recognition of the value of open data for scientific research, technological cooperation, and evidence-based decision-making, and our shared goals of preserving the norms and values of scientific cooperation such as openness, transparency, and equity. The United States and Latvia agree that scientific research and technological cooperation is an important condition for the development of national economies and a basis for expanded trade.
The strong, vital partnership between Latvia and the United States is rooted in a shared commitment to democracy, human rights, the rule of law, and mutual respect. Through the Scientific and Technological Cooperation Agreement, the United States and Latvia are demonstrating our conviction that elevating international cooperation across scientific research and technology will not only serve to strengthen our bonds of friendship and understanding but will also advance both countries mutual goals to support scientific solutions to some of today’s most pressing global challenges.
