CUT student to represent SA at the World Mobile Robotics Competition in France
Neo Ramasilo’s exceptional talent and passion for Information Technology (IT) have led her to embark on an incredible journey into the world of Robotics. Her dedication has allowed her to attend training in mobile robotics in China on 12 April 2024 to represent CUT and her country in the World Mobile Robotics competition in France.
Neo’s passion for Robotics started at a young age, and despite the lack of resources, she seized every opportunity to explore and learn more. Her hard work and dedication led her to compete in a prestigious competition where she and her team created and programmed two robots. Through sheer perseverance and ingenuity, they emerged victorious and advanced to the WorldSkills competition, the pinnacle of their journey.
“I am excited about the exposure of Artificial Intelligence technologies through my training and what the world has to offer. I am also excited and honoured to represent my university and South Africa at the WorldSkills competition. It would be nice to return home with an award for being in the top three. That is our goal as a team,” she said.
As Neo reflects on the intense competition, she remembers her challenges, such as equipment malfunctions threatening her progress. However, Neo’s resilience shone through as she navigated the hurdles with unwavering determination, aided by the expertise of mentors and teammates.
For Neo, Robotics is more than just an ordinary competition; it represents an opportunity for personal growth and professional development. With aspirations to delve deeper into Robotics, Neo envisions a future where innovation knows no bounds. Her journey extends beyond the confines of competitions as she seeks knowledge and strives for excellence.
With a fervent desire to elevate South Africa’s standing on the global stage, Neo dreams of bringing home a medal from the WorldSkills competition, a testament to her unwavering dedication and determined spirit.
Yet, amidst the pursuit of accolades, Neo remains grounded in her principles, emphasising the importance of teamwork, trust, and communication in the competitive arena. Her practical approach to problem-solving serves as a guiding light, reminding aspiring roboticists to focus on practicality and functionality before delving into creativity and innovation.
For her, the journey is just beginning. Armed with passion, perseverance, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, she stands poised to leave a mark on the world of Robotics as she envisions a future where robots transcend their mechanical confines.
