Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met today with Israeli Opposition Leader Yair Lapid in Israel.  Secretary Blinken reaffirmed the United States’ steadfast support for Israel’s right to defend itself against terrorism consistent with international humanitarian law and the need to take all possible steps to protect civilian lives.  The Secretary also discussed ongoing efforts to secure the release of hostages.  Secretary Blinken stressed that the United States remains committed to the furtherance of a two-state solution as the best way to achieve a just and durable resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
