BILLIE JEAN KING CUP FINALS 2023: ITALY’S CALL-UPS
The competition will be played on indoor hard courts of ‘Estadio de la Cartuja’ in Seville. Live on SuperTennis Tv
Rome, October 9th 2023 – The Billie Jean King Cup Italian national team captain’s, Tathiana Garbin, has
announced the list of players called up for the eagerly awaited Finals of the competition, which will take
place from November 7th to November 12th at the indoor fast courts of the ‘Estadio de la Cartuja’ in
Seville.
Here the ‘Azzurre’ for Seville:
Lucia BRONZETTI
Elisabetta COCCIARETTO
Jasmine PAOLINI
Lucrezia STEFANINI
Martina TREVISAN
Tathiana Garbin’s girls will make their debut on November 8th at 10 a.m. against France, who have
triumphed three times in the competition. The following day, at the same time, ‘Azzurre’ will take on
two-time champions Germany. Group D will then close on November 10th (starting at 10am) with tie
between the German and the transalpine national teams, winners of the 2019 edition.
Italy is in its second consecutive participation in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals. In 2022, in Glasgow,
Martina Trevisan, Jasmine Paolini, Lucia Bronzetti and Elisabetta Cocciaretto had ended the Finals with
two defeats in as many matches in the round against Canada and Switzerland, who would go on to win
the tournament. Germany and France also took part in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals for the second time.
Tathiana Garbin, Italy’s captain: “We are preparing intensively for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals. We
want to honor our commitment to the ‘azzurra’ jersey as best we can. My team is compact, solid, made
up of exceptional girls. A close-knit group that has grown a lot in recent years, from every point of view,
achieving excellent results. The girls are all going through a period of excellent form. Offering tennis of
the highest level, Paolini reached the third round in Beijing, playing on a par with world no.1 Sabalenka;
Cocciaretto, a few weeks ago, won her first WTA title and then hit her best ranking of no.29; Trevisan
reached Guadalajara’s quarter-finals beating a champion like Jabeur; Bronzetti reached the third round
at the US Open, losing a very tight match against Zheng; then, there is the new entry, Stefanini, a girl
who deserved her convocation, the crowning glory of her best season in career. We are very sorry that
Giorgi will not be able to be with us. Unfortunately, Camila has been struggling with a nagging foot
problem that does not allow her to train as she would like. In a month’s time, we will be ready to face,
first of all, fearsome teams like France and Germany. The path will not be easy and the pitfalls many, but
I am convinced that we will be able to face them at our best. For us, it will be the second consecutive
participation in the Finals and the experience gained last year in Glasgow will serve us to do even better
in Seville. The feelings, about this trip, can only be positive: every time our girls come to the national
team, they manage to go beyond their limits, because of the love and respect they have for this jersey,
for the pride they feel in wearing it”.
