(AGENPARL) – BRUXELLES mer 03 maggio 2023 National independent fiscal institutions (IFIs) are an important element in the EU fiscal governance landscape and can play a role in the envisaged fiscal-structural plans. To this end, minimum standards are needed. Even though an individual government may be reluctant to strengthen its IFI, it is in the collective interest to have a set of strong IFIs throughout the EU. This would need the support from the European Commission and the European Parliament, being the institutions that “internalise” fiscal policy externalities.
