Congress will monitor the application of the European Charter of Local Self-Government in France
The rapporteurs will meet remotely with the representatives of the Regional and Departmental Councils of La Réunion, the Mayor of Saint-Denis (La Réunion), the President of the Regional Audit Chamber of La Réunion and Mayotte, and the members of the national delegation of France to the Congress.
Meetings are scheduled with the representatives of the Regional Council of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and the Prefect of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region as well as with the President of the Regional Audit Chamber of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
The rapporteurs will also discuss the latest developments in the field of local and regional self-government in France with the mayors of Besançon and Dorans and the deputy Mayor of Dijon.
France ratified the European Charter of Local Self-Government in 2007. Countries that have ratified the Charter are bound by its provisions. The Charter requires the implementation of a minimum set of rights which form the essential basis of local self-government in Europe. The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe ensures that these principles are respected in the 46 Council of Europe member states.
