Manitoba Government Extends Deadline for
Heritage Resources Conservation Grant Applications
The Manitoba government has extended the deadline to Feb. 15 for applications to the Heritage Resources Conservation Grant, a program that supports local, community-based projects for preserving municipal and provincial designated heritage sites across Manitoba, Sport, Culture and Heritage Minister Andrew Smith announced today.
“Our great province has a rich and diverse heritage, and our government is committed to preserving this legacy for future generations,” said Smith. “We are pleased to work with community organizations, local governments and property owners that increase the sustainability of Manitoba’s heritage sites. This will preserve our cultural heritage for future generations.”
The Heritage Resources Conservation Grant will provide over $860,000 this year to support projects that demonstrate a commitment toward the conservation and long-term sustainability of heritage resources legally protected under the Heritage Resources Act.
Owners and long-term lessees of heritage sites as well as municipal governments, professional associations and non-profit organizations that manage heritage sites can apply for funding for eligible projects related to research, conservation planning, capital projects and endowments.
Applications are assessed based on the following:
– importance of the project to overall heritage conservation goals;
– quality of the proposed work;
– ability of the applicant to complete the project;
– financial need of the applicant; and
– community benefit of the project.
The original application deadline of Jan. 15 has been extended until Feb. 15. Successful recipients will be announced later in 2023, noted Smith.
