Bring some magic to your new year: uncover the myths and legend surrounding one of history’s most recognisable characters.
Who was Alexander the Great? You decide. Was he the son of a serpent or the son of Zeus? Was he a dragon slayer? And is he the only man able to resist the charm of deadly sirens? The story of Alexander has changed over the centuries and from country to country. In our major exhibition, see these weird and wonderful myths and legends in the form of beautiful manuscripts, tablets and artefacts, armour, art, film and game.
Visit Alexander the Great: The Making of a Myth by 19 February 2023.

Keeping Alexander relevant
Alexander’s 2000-year-old legacy is inspiring storytellers to this day. Reimena Yee is one such storyteller and her modern retelling of the Alexander Romance features in the exhibition in the form of a graphic novel. Our collections played a key role in Reimena’s research and curator Yrja Thorsdottir caught up with her to chat all things Alexander and what inspired her graphic novel.
