Premier Heather Stefanson Announces First Phase Government Refresh with Key Staffing Changes
To refresh the Manitoba government’s administration and prepare it to better address the current priority concerns of Manitobans, Premier Heather Stefanson today announced a number of changes to key staff in executive council.
“As we begin a new year, it is a time of renewal and a time to redouble our efforts to heal health care and rejuvenate our economy while helping make our streets safer and life more affordable for Manitobans,” said Stefanson.
Kathryn Gerrard will assume the role of clerk of the executive council, having previously served as deputy minister of economic development, investment and trade and as deputy minister of families.
“Kathryn brings a wealth of executive experience to our team having led important departments, initiatives and organizations including our mental health, homeless and addictions file,” said Stefanson. “She is also an innovator and a whole-of-government strategist and I look forward to the leadership she will provide in quickly advancing our agenda of renewal, especially in health care.”
Gerrard replaces Donald A. Leitch, who will continue to assist during the transition.
“I extend my deepest appreciation to Don for his experienced guidance during my first year as premier,” added Stefanson.
The premier also announced the departure of Philip Houde, chief of staff.
“I am thankful that Philip once again answered the call to provide calm and steady leadership in executive council,” said Stefanson. “I wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
As the Manitoba government team continues to change and evolve, the premier concluded that her focus will always be on listening to Manitobans while moving rapidly forward to address many pressing priorities, noting that toward this goal, more announcements will be forthcoming.
