
(AGENPARL) – mer 07 dicembre 2022 International Mountain Day: FAO aims spotlight on women at high-level event in Rome on 9 December2022 at 12:30 CET
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations will mark International Mountain Day 2022 with a high-level meeting in Rome on Friday, December 9.
The Day, celebrated every December 11, is designed to raise awareness about the importance of mountains to life and to build alliances that will bring positive change to mountain peoples and environments around the world.
This year’s theme is Women move mountains. 2022 also marks the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development, as proclaimed by the UN General Assembly, as well as the twentieth anniversary of the Mountain Partnership, the UN alliance dedicated to improving the lives of mountain peoples and protecting mountain environments around the world.
Friday’s event in Rome will showcase a (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNFcFoDdbW0&ab_channel=FoodandAgricultureOrganizationoftheUnitedNations) and fashion show about the recent collaboration between the Peruvian women’s collective Illariy Threads4Dreams and Italian-Haitian fashion designer and Mountain Partnership Goodwill Ambassador Stella Jean, together with the Mountain Partnership Secretariat and the FAO Women’s Committee.
To mark this year’s edition of International Mountain Day, FAO will publish a study called Mountain women of the world: Challenges, resilience and collective power. The study highlights the stories and voices of mountain women in eight countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Italy, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal and Tanzania), with a focus on rural areas and mountain tourism.
FAO Director-General QU Dongyu will deliver opening remarks at 12:30 CET, followed by speeches from leading officials including Maria Ubach, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Andorra, and Bruno Archi, Permanent Representative of Italy to FAO.
