Bold cartoons by Nina E. Allender, for covers of The Suffragist, the weekly newspaper of the Congressional Union (later the National Woman’s Party), portrayed attractive, active young women advocating for women’s right to vote, thus helping to overturn longstanding negative imagery of suffragists. Join (retired) Curator Martha H. Kennedy in viewing and exploring how selected works by Allender, the Party’s official cartoonist, illuminated and supported key efforts in the struggle to realize passage and ratification of the 19th Amendment.
