Announcement of the 2022 Sakharov Prize laureate
President Metsola will announce to plenary the winner of this year’s Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought at 17.00. Julian Assange, the brave Ukrainian people represented by their president, elected leaders, and civil society, and the Truth Commission in Colombia are the three finalists. The award ceremony will take place on 14 December in Strasbourg.

Preparation of the 20-21 October European Council
Starting at 9.00, MEPs will outline their expectations for the autumn EU summit, in a debate with Commission President von der Leyen and the Czech Presidency, represented by Minister for European Affairs Bek. The summit agenda is focused on the developments in Russia’s war against Ukraine, the EU’s support for Ukraine, energy emergency measures, EU-Asia relations and the COP27 UN Climate Change Conference.
