Team Toronto surpasses 7.5 million dose milestone of COVID-19 vaccine
Team Toronto has reached two critical milestones in the fight against COVID-19 – more than 7.5 million COVID-19 vaccinations have now been administered and 90 per cent of people age 12 and older have received two doses of vaccine.
Team Toronto is not stopping now. The pandemic continues, and so will Team Toronto with more immunization clinics and community providers offering the latest in Health Canada-approved vaccines including the recently released Moderna Spikevax® bivalent.
The new COVID-19 bivalent booster is available to residents age 18 and older at the six City of Toronto COVID-19 immunization clinics and at community pop-up clinics. The Moderna Spikevax® bivalent vaccine triggers a strong immune response against the Omicron BA.1, BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants, and the original SARS-CoV-2 virus strain. More information is available on the City’s COVID-19: About the Vaccines webpage: http://www.toronto.ca/home/covid-19/covid-19-vaccines/covid-19-about-the-vaccines/?accordion=mrna-vaccines.
Eligible residents are encouraged to get their first and second doses, as well as a booster COVID-19 doses as soon as possible. A fall booster dose is recommended for all persons aged 18 and older regardless of previous booster doses received. COVID-19 activity is expected to increase this fall and winter and the bivalent vaccine may better protect against Omicron variants and will provide additional protection. COVID-19 vaccinations have been scientifically proven to lower the risk of illness, hospitalization and death, while protecting people, their loved ones and the community.
City-run immunization clinics and community pop-up clinics
The six City-run immunization clinics continue to add new appointments for first, second, and booster doses of COVID-19 vaccine for eligible residents 6 months of age and up. City-run clinics are easily accessible by transit and offer free parking on site. Clinic staff are also able to provide resources in multiple languages. A person with a vaccination appointment can also bring a support person to help with translation. More information and details about clinic locations and hours is available on the City’s COVID-19: Where to Get Vaccinated webpage: http://www.toronto.ca/home/covid-19/covid-19-vaccines/covid-19-how-to-get-vaccinated/
