The Library of Congress is accepting applications for a Material Handler, WG-06, until September 13, 2022.
An applicant will be selected for an opportunity to serve an assignment up to 120 days in the Office of Copyright Records (CR) supporting the Records Management Division, Deposit Copies Storage Unit in the position of Material Handler, WG 06. Depending on applicant qualifications, this may be either a temporary promotion or a non-reimbursable detail with no change in salary. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
– Materials Handling Work (i.e., loads, unloads, moves, transfers deposits)
– Warehouse Storage and Space Utilization Planning (coordinates incoming/outgoing shipments; automates inventory; plans storage, shifts materials, etc.)
WHO IS ELIGIBLE
Permanent, full-time employees of the Library of Congress in good standing with at least a satisfactory/successful performance rating. Temporary and indefinite employees are not eligible.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
– Must be a WG 6 (GS 6) for a detail.
– Must have at least 6 months at the next lower grade for a temporary promotion. Must be one year since last temporary promotion.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Must be able to meet physical requirements (i.e., climb, bend, lift, pull, push, carry, squat, and reach overhead).
– Must be able to work in close and elevated locations under conditions where safety harness must be used.
– Must be able to lift and transport up to 40 pounds.
– Must be able to operate warehouse equipment (i.e., hand trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, and motorized material handling equipment).
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Knowledge of warehouse safety and security requirements.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is a detail/temporary promotion with no expectation of permanent placement. The incumbent will work a flexitime or compflex schedule. The location is Landover, Maryland. The dates of this assignment are projected to beSeptember 26, 2022through January 20, 2023.If the budget permits, rotations for additional qualified applicants may be available. The assignment may be extended at the option of the Copyright Office and agreement of all parties.
