Innovation Challenge: Exploring the Extremes!
Big news! Students, ages 13 – 17, are invited to join a new, upcoming STEM challenge this Fall.
This upcoming challenge, “[Exploring the Extremes](https://nyas.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cce5d9495ba8e5717fdab6ede&id=b9026d40f9&e=28d77a0062)”, begs the question, what are the current limits or extremes of human exploration, ability, knowledge, and understanding? And – more importantly – how can we use an Explorer’s Mindset to continue pushing those limits even farther? Students can apply through August 12th to develop an innovative, research-driven solution. Students and mentors from the winning team and finalist teams will each receive a prize package. Start an application or share this opportunity with the STEM-interested students you know!

The ISR recently launched [a report](https://nyas.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cce5d9495ba8e5717fdab6ede&id=8513da7772&e=28d77a0062) about the lessons that they learned from our first readiness exercise on wildfires. The ISR chose wildfires because they are a crisis that has become more frequent and destructive in recent years due to climate change, commercial development, and other local factors. The team recently spoke with Dr. Sara Brown of the USDA’s Forest Service, one of the generous experts who helped design real-world wildfire scenarios that could really happen. [Read the interview](https://nyas.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cce5d9495ba8e5717fdab6ede&id=72a0473bf3&e=28d77a0062) to learn why Dr. Brown believes the ISR has the potential to be “enormous in scale” and could tackle some of the world’s most pressing disasters through scientific collaboration.
