Knowing what constitutes a safe level of debt is crucial and oft-debated.
In an article for our March 2022 issue of F&D Magazine, Olivier Blanchard, the C. Fred Bergsten Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, asks: when does debt become unsafe?
Blanchard proposes a two-step approach to the question, but warns that “the answer is not going to be some universal magic number.”
