Abstract:
In the last year we demonstrated how low-cost sensor technologies can be used successfully in remote areas to collect tropospheric ozone measurements. Thanks to a school-work project with the ITIS Max Planck, we developed and tested a printed circuit board to transmit measurements using an emerging radio technique (LoRa). Thanks to the collaboration with the Center for the Built Environment at UC Berkeley, further steps have been made for the development of a sensor network across the oriental Alps. The PIONEER project will demonstrate how to exploit low-cost technologies to assess spatial distribution of transboundary transport of airborne pollutants such as ozone. During the seminar will be presented a summary of: i) current status of the PIONEER project; ii) on-going research activities; iii) collaboration opportunities with UC Berkeley and its industry partners; iv) chances to develop a collaboration with the ITIS Max Plank and the industry (e.g., Clivet); v) upcoming research projects.
