Three students with outstanding academic records and demonstrated interest in American politics participated in the “Inside Washington” Seminar hosted by The Washington Center last month.
The selective program gives students the opportunity to learn more about what goes on behind the scenes in the nation’s capital from political insiders, scholars and journalists. This year’s speakers included CNN chief congressional correspondent Manu Raju, Washington Post supreme court correspondent Robert Barnes, and officials from the Brennan Center for Justice, the Bipartisan Policy Center and the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights.
This is the 10th year that Hofstra students have participated in the Washington Center January seminar, supported by scholarships provided by Scott Rechler, chief executive officer and chairman of RXR Realty LLC. The seminar, originally scheduled for January, was postponed amid concerns about COVID-19.
Dr. Meena Bose, PhD, executive dean of public policy and public service programs in the Peter S. Kalikow School of Government, Public Policy and International Affairs, and director of the Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency, has directed several programs for the Washington Center, and oversees Hofstra’s student selection process.
“We’re delighted that our students participated in this unique program and engaged with scholars, journalists, policy practitioners, and their peers from other schools to evaluate prospects for policy making and governance in the United States today,” Bose said.
The Washington Center is a non-profit organization that has hosted seminars and other courses about American politics and governance for more than 30 years.
