The Week Ahead 29 September – 05 October 2025 [4]
Elections in Moldova.* A delegation of MEPs, working with representatives of other international institutions, will be observing Moldova’s parliamentary elections. Moldovans head to the polls on 28 September amidst Russian hybrid attacks and interference. A press conference with the head of Parliament’s delegation and other international election observers will take place on Monday 29 September at 14.00 CEST/ in Chișinău.
Plenary preparations.* Political groups will prepare for the 6-9 October plenary session, where MEPs will debate how to promote and protect the EU’s digital sovereignty, assess the situation in Afghanistan, and discuss the state of EU-India relations. The agenda also includes votes on simplifying aspects of the EU’s agricultural policy, strengthening farmers’ position in the food supply chain, and revising the visa suspension mechanism. An address by the Prime Minister of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, and the continuation of the ‘This is Europe’ debate series with the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Luc Frieden, will be other highlights of the October I session.
Pre-session press briefing*. The EP’s Press Service will hold a press briefing with Parliament’s political group spokespersons at 11.00 on Friday/ (Anna Politkovskaya room, press centre, Brussels).
President’s diary*. On Wednesday, EP President Roberta Metsola will participate in the informal European Council meeting and on Thursday in the 7th meeting of the European Political Community, both in Copenhagen.
