Media registration now open for WHO FCTC COP11 and MOP4

What
The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the governing body of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC), comprising of all Parties to the Convention. It regularly reviews the implementation of the WHO FCTC and adopts decisions needed to promote its effective application.
The Convention’s 183 Parties—representing more than 90% of the world’s population—work collectively to strengthen and advance tobacco control efforts.
At COP11, Parties will consider a wide range of measures shaping the future of the WHO FCTC and its role in combating the global tobacco epidemic.
The Meeting of the Parties (MOP) serves as the governing body of the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products—an international treaty that entered into force in 2018.
The Protocol, which comprises of 70 Parties, aims to eradicate illicit trade in tobacco products through a coordinated set of measures implemented by countries in cooperation with one another.
At MOP4, Parties will consider a range of measures aimed at shaping the future of the Protocol and its role in combatting illicit trade in tobacco products.

Please note that non UN accredited correspondents wishing to cover COP11 and/or MOP4 need to be accredited.

Please note that the following information will be required by journalists to complete their registration:
· A letter signed by their editor-in-chief or equivalent supervisor, indicating the reason for accreditation and the dates requested
· Photocopies of media credentials (press ID card);
· A copy of their national passport.
Media registration for COP and MOP will close on 3 November, 2025.
Notes to editors
The WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control [https://fctc.who.int/] (WHO FCTC) is the first ever public health treaty negotiated under the auspices of WHO with 183 Parties to the Convention covering 90% of the global population. The treaty provides a legal framework and a comprehensive package of evidence-based tobacco control measures underpinned by international law that have saved millions of lives through measures including large pictorial health warnings on cigarette packages, smoke free laws and increased taxes on tobacco products, among many others.
