Ward 25, Scarborough-Rouge Park by-election candidate nominations and third party advertiser registrations open Monday
Candidate nominations for the office of Councillor, Ward 25, Scarborough-Rouge Park, by-election will open on Monday.
Nominations will be accepted from Monday, June 23, at 8:30 a.m. until Friday, August 15, at 2 p.m.
Advance voting in this by-election will be available on Saturday, September 20, and Sunday, September 21. Election day is Monday, September 29.
To run for the office of Councillor, a person must:
• file a nomination paper with their original signature,
• provide proof of qualifying address within the city of Toronto,
• pay a $100 nomination filing fee, and
• provide at least 25 endorsements of nomination from eligible Toronto voters with original signatures.
Nominations must be filed in person at the Toronto Elections City Hall office, located at 100 Queen St. W., first floor, Permit Alley. The office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (excluding holidays). On the last day of the nomination period, the office will accept nominations from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Until a nomination paper is filed, a person cannot raise or spend any money on their campaign. Information about the nomination process is available on the Toronto Elections webpage: http://www.toronto.ca/ByElection.
Prescribed forms containing original signatures must be used when filing the nomination paper and the endorsements of nomination. These forms and additional information are available on the by-election webpage: http://www.toronto.ca/ByElection.
As nominations are filed, the names of uncertified candidates will be available on the Ward 25, Scarborough-Rouge Park by-election webpage: http://www.toronto.ca/ByElection.
The final list of certified candidates will be available after the close of nominations on Friday, August 15.
Third Party Advertiser Registration
Any person, corporation or trade union intending to spend money to promote, support or oppose a candidate in the Ward 25, Scarborough-Rouge Park by-election must register as a third party advertiser.
A third party advertiser Notice of Registration can only be filed in person at the Toronto Elections City Hall office. Registrations can be filed Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (excluding statutory holidays), between Monday, June 23, and Friday, September 26.
The City Clerk must certify the registration before a third party advertiser can spend money on their campaign, accept contributions or begin advertising. Registered third party advertisers must identify themselves on advertisements and comply with requirements under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.
