To Prof. Dr. Marion Ackermann
General director of the Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden
Dear Prof. Dr. Marion Ackermann,
I am Ciro Buonajuto, Mayor of the City of Ercolano. I would like to inform you that I want to ask the competent institutions
for the return of the three extraordinary statues depicting the “Vestals”, currently on display in your prestigious museum
and originally found inside the ancient theater of the archaeological excavations of Herculaneum.
These magnificent works of art are full of historical and cultural significance and are a symbol of our ancient city
destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.
I understand the difficulty of this request, but I ask you to welcome the dream of the whole city and return the
statues to the city of Herculaneum. Or show them to me in Herculaneum.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Avv. Ciro Buonajuto
