Manitoba Government Welcomes the Start of
the Spring Legislative Session
The Manitoba government is looking forward to the fifth session of the 42nd legislature.
“Our government will present a comprehensive legislative agenda focusing on the priorities of Manitobans including measures to strengthen the health-care system, make life more affordable, secure safer streets, create a stronger economy with good paying jobs, reduce red tape and make it easier for Manitobans to access government services,” said government house leader Kelvin Goertzen. “We’ve heard the priorities of Manitobans, we are listening and we’re taking action to address them.”
As part of the Manitoba government’s ongoing commitment to making life more affordable, it recently introduced the Carbon Tax Relief Fund, said Goertzen. Roughly 90 per cent of Manitobans will receive financial relief in the form of cheques of $225 for a single person and $375 for a couple to help cope with the pressures of rising costs including food and fuel expenses. Manitobans can expect additional measures to make life more affordable in the weeks and months ahead, Goertzen noted.
In addition to reducing the tax burden on Manitobans by phasing out education property taxes, the Manitoba government is committed to investing in building stronger communities and creating more affordable child-care spaces for families, Goertzen added.
“Premier Heather Stefanson and our government look forward to making more strategic investments to strengthen services and build a stronger future, full of opportunity for all Manitobans,” said Goertzen.
The fifth session of the 42nd legislature begins today at 1:30 p.m.
