Press release 12-09-2023 AFCO   None [4] Future of Europe: press conference on Parliament’s proposals for Treaty revision
On Wednesday afternoon, lead MEPs on the proposals will present the key points of the report and answer journalists’ questions.
MEPs Guy VERHOFSTADT [5] (Renew, BE), Sven Simon [6] (EPP, DE), Gabriele Bischoff [7] (S&D, DE), Daniel Freund [8] (Greens/EFA, DE), and Helmut Scholz [9] (The Left, DE) will discuss key aspects of their report with journalists. The press conference will take place on the same day as the State of the European Union debate in plenary and one day in advance of the official presentation of the report in the Committee on Constitutional Affairs [10] .
When: *Wednesday 13 September, 14.30-15.00 CEST.

Background*
Following the activation of the process to change the EU Treaties [13], MEPs on the Committee on Constitutional Affairs started working on a comprehensive set of proposals to make changes to the European Union’s institutional framework and processes. These proposals were drafted in order to meet citizens’ expectations for the Future of the EU, and in light of the circumstances that the European Union is facing and the proposals of the Conference on the Future of Europe [14] .
On 9 May 2022 in Strasbourg, EP President Roberta Metsola, French President Emmanuel Macron on behalf of the Council Presidency, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen received from the Co-Chairs of the Conference Executive Board [15] its final report [16] . This includes 49 proposals comprising more than 300 measures across 9 themes [17], based on 178 recommendations from the European Citizens’ Panels [18], input from the National Panels and events [19], ideas from the European Youth Event [20], and 43 734 contributions on 16 274 ideas recorded on the multilingual digital platform [21] .
