PRESS RELEASE
FOUR-PARTY CONFERENCE (G4),
THE IMPORTANCE OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION:
COMMON STRATEGIC VISION AND JOINT TASK FORCES
The Centre of Excellence for Stability Police Units (CoESPU) in Vicenza is currently hosting the summit conference (G4) of the European gendarmeries and police forces with military status, including the Italian Arma dei Carabinieri, the French Gendarmerie Nationale, the Spanish Guardia Civil and the Portuguese Guarda Nacional Republicana.
After discussing the topic of joint training, the heads of the four police forces focused on environmental protection. The Arma dei Carabinieri, Europe’s largest environmental police force, agreed with its counterparts on the need to promote a common strategic vision on a global level by holding periodic meetings to verify the feasibility of a unified course of action.
The development of projects aimed at protecting the environment will involve a joint commitment and the possibility of requesting appropriate funding from the European Union. Where technology is concerned, sector-related technical and IT knowledge will be shared and developed: in this regard, the Command for Forests, Environmental and Agribusiness Safeguard Units put forward two projects for the suppression of forest fires and the use of technology to combat illegal timber trafficking.
The importance of cooperation also lies in sharing and exchanging experiences and joint initiatives: this could lead to the establishment of joint task forces of specialists, able to carry out international engagements in situations requiring high technical skills in environmental matters.
The third step of the conference will discuss the exchange of good practices in the cyber field, in order to keep up with technological challenges and the metaverse.
