TIM AND FASTWEB + VODAFONE: RAN SHARING AGREEMENT TO ACCELERATE
THE DEVELOPMENT OF 5G IN ITALY
TIM confirms that it has defined a preliminary agreement with Fastweb + Vodafone to start working together
on developing mobile access networks through a Radio Access Network (RAN) sharing model. The agreement
– which is a step towards finalizing a definitive contract expected by the second quarter of 2026 – aims to
speed up the rollout of 5G in Italy.
The project, which is subject to approval by the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy (MIMIT), the Italian
Competition Authority (AGCM), and the Italian Communications Authority (AGCom), represents an important
step forward in the efficient use of existing infrastructure and will enable broader and more sustainable 5G
coverage.
The agreement provides that each operator shall be able to use the other’s mobile radio access infrastructure
in the areas concerned, thereby avoiding duplication of infrastructure. The efficiencies generated will make
it possible to extend high-performance 5G network coverage to underserved low-density areas, improving
digital inclusion and service quality for households and businesses.
The collaboration model, already widely adopted in other European Union countries, ensures that both
companies will maintain full commercial autonomy and technological independence, with a reduced
environmental impact and, by lowering implementation costs, frees up resources for new investments in
next-generation mobile technology.
By contributing to a more effective rollout of 5G networks, this initiative supports Italy’s digital
transformation, strengthening its competitiveness in line with the objectives of the European Digital Decade
and bringing direct benefits to consumers, businesses, and communities across the entire Country.
