Committee meetings
ECB chief Christine Lagarde. *MEPs in the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee will hold the regular monetary dialogue with President of the European Central Bank (ECB) Christine Lagarde, followed by a discussion with her in her role as the Chair of the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB) ( Wednesday)./
EU trade priorities*. MEPs in the International Trade Committee will discuss the upcoming adoption of two regulations, on the implementation of the tariff deal with the US and on Mercosur agreement safeguards (Tuesday)/.
EU-US relations*. The Foreign Affairs Committee will take stock of EU-US political relations. MEPs are set to call for a more coherent approach to the transatlantic partnership, urge the US to strengthen its leadership role in supporting Ukraine, welcome commitments to end the war in Gaza, and encourage both sides to work towards the removal of tariffs and non-tariff barriers to trade (Tuesday)/.
Appointment of European Chief Prosecutor*. The Civil Liberties Committee will hear the proposed candidates to lead the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. After the hearing, the committee will decide on their order of preference. The European Chief Prosecutor is appointed by Parliament and Council for a seven-year period (Wednesday)/.
Digital travel application*. The Civil Liberties Committee will also vote on legislation establishing an EU digital travel application and digital travel credentials to reduce waiting times at EU external borders. It would provide for digital credentials that could be submitted and verified ahead of time by border authorities (Wednesday)/.
Disability Rights Week*. The third edition of Parliament’s Disability Rights Week will spotlight the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities across all areas of EU policy. Committees will organise hearings and other activities focusing on the rights of persons with disabilities, identifying barriers, sharing good practices, and strengthening accessibility ( Monday to Thursday)/.
Conference of Presidents/Cypriot EU Presidency*. Parliament’s President Roberta Metsola and political group leaders will go to Nicosia on Monday and Tuesday/ to prepare the upcoming Cypriot Presidency of the EU Council with the country’s political leaders.
President’s diary*. On Monday/, when in Nicosia for the Conference of Presidents’ (CoP) visit for the coming Cypriot Presidency, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola will meet Cyprus’ President Nikos Christodoulides. She will participate in the CoP’s meeting with the government of Cyprus, and hold a joint press conference with President Christodoulides. On Tuesday/, still in Nicosia, President Metsola will join the CoP’s meeting with Annita Demetriou, President of Cyprus’ House of Representatives, and with the leaders and representatives of the political parties in the House of Representatives. She will then participate in a townhall discussion with students with President Christodoulides in Larnaca. On Thursday /and Friday/, President Metsola will be in Luxembourg for the European Parliament Bureau away days, where on Friday she will have an audience with the Grand-Duke of Luxembourg. On Saturday/ in Helsinki, /President Metsola will attend the official celebration of Finland’s Independence Day.
