Plenary session, Strasbourg
Toy safety: *On Tuesday/, MEPs are set to confirm an agreement on new rules to decrease the number of unsafe toys sold in the EU, protecting children’s health and development from toy-related risks.
Safer online platforms for minors*. MEPs will debate on Tuesday/, and vote on Wednesday, /on their proposals to ban harmful practices like addictive design and gambling-like game features, as well as establishing an age threshold of 16 years for accessing social media. A press conference with the rapporteur will take place after the vote.
European defence industry programme*. On Tuesday/, Parliament is set to approve the first-ever European defence industry programme (EDIP), designed to strengthen the EU’s defence industry and increase defence support for Ukraine. A press conference with lead MEPs will take place on Wednesday morning.
Rare earth imports from China*. Wednesday/ morning’s key debate will focus on how to use the EU trade and industrial policy to tackle China’s restrictions on exports of rare earth elements, key for the EU’s digital and green transitions.
Digital regulation simplification. *A debate on Tuesday /afternoon between MEPs and the Commission will be the first in Parliament on the new “digital omnibus” to simplify the EU tech rules.
EU deforestation law*. On Wednesday/, MEPs will decide whether to simplify EU deforestation law, which aims to ensure products sold in the EU are not sourced from deforested land.
EU airspace/critical infrastructure*. On Wednesday/, MEPs and the Commission will debate the ongoing threats to EU airspace and critical infrastructure posed by Russia and Belarus.
Third-country lobbying*. Parliament will debate on Wednesday,/ and vote on Thursday, /on new rules which seek to increase transparency and public trust in policy and decision-making. A press conference with the rapporteur will take place on Tuesday afternoon.
EU 2026 budget*. On Wednesday/, Parliament is set to adopt the EU’s budget for 2026. MEPs secured additional funding during negotiations with member states for research, competitiveness, and security. A press conference with the rapporteurs is scheduled after the vote.
President’s diary.* European Parliament President Roberta Metsola will preside over the opening of the plenary session on Monday. On Tuesday, she will participate in a *plenary debate on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. On Friday, President Metsola will be in Athens, where she will meet Greece’s President Konstantinos Tasoulas as well as Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, hosting a press conference with the latter. Still in Athens, she will also participate with Prime Minister Mitsotakis in a joint town hall discussion with students on “Empowering the Next Generation of Europeans”.
Last-minute briefing*. On Monday at 16:30, Parliament will hold a press briefing on the plenary session, which starts at 17:00. Political group briefings will take place on Tuesday.
