WHO FCTC COP and MOP opening virtual press conference
When: Thursday, 13 November 2025, 15:00 CET (Geneva time)
Subject: Representatives from Parties will meet in Geneva over the next two weeks to discuss tobacco control measures under the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) and the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products.
The Conference of the Parties (COP) [https://fctc.who.int/convention/conference-of-the-parties/sessions/eleventh-session-of-the-conference-of-the-parties] is the governing body of the WHO FCTC and its eleventh session will be held in Geneva on 17-22 November 2025.
The Meeting of the Parties (MOP) [https://fctc.who.int/protocol/meeting-of-the-parties/sessions/fourth-session-of-the-meeting-of-the-parties] to the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products (Protocol) is the governing body of the Protocol. The fourth session of the MOP will take place in Geneva from 24-26 November 2025. Speakers during the press conference will share what will be expected during the COP and MOP and key media moments.

The WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control [https://fctc.who.int/] is the first ever public health treaty negotiated under the auspices of WHO with 183 Parties to the Convention covering 90% of the global population. The treaty provides a legal framework and a comprehensive package of evidence-based tobacco control measures underpinned by international law that have saved millions of lives through measures including large pictorial health warnings on cigarette packages, smoke free laws and increased taxes on tobacco products, among many others.
