Stories like those found in this historic charter, issued by King Edward III in 1368. This unique manuscript is rare in its beautiful illumination and is even adorned with a Great Seal – the symbol of King Edward’s regal and divine authority. It offers us a fascinating insight into the lives of significant figures from our history.

The charter, and other key items in our care, is in need of preservation work by the expert conservators in my team. Money raised from this year’s conservation appeal will fund the work needed to keep this manuscript available for everyone to enjoy and study in our Reading Rooms for years to come.
