The Week Ahead: Key Events and Meetings

Launch of the Council of Europe Recommendation on Equal Rights for Intersex Persons
The first session, “Intersex voices – Intersex experiences and expectations”, will bring to the forefront the perspectives of intersex people, parents and community representatives, shedding light on the lived realities that inspired this landmark Recommendation.
The event will start at 3 pm. at the Committee of Ministers’ room and will be open to media. The illumination of the Palais de l’Europe in purple will take place at 5:30 pm.
Ministerial Conference marking the 25th Anniversary of the Landscape Convention
1. 25 Years of Achievements of the Florence Convention;
2. Future of the Florence Convention.
A ceremony to award the European Diploma for Protected Areas awarded to the Sierra Nevada National Park, Nature Park, and Biosphere Reserve (Spain) will also be featured.
UNGA80 event on the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine
28 October, New York (United States) – Senior representatives of the Council of Europe, the Office of the President of Ukraine and the Open Society Justice Initiative will be among the speakers at a high-level event entitled “80 Years After Nuremberg and Tokyo: The Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine as a Building Block for a System to Support Peace and End Impunity for Starting Wars”.
The event, which will consider the establishment of the Special Tribunal as an historic opportunity to restore the principle of accountability for inter-state aggression, will take place during International Law Week at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

Among side events of the session are a signing ceremony of memorandums of understanding with the cities of Kyiv and Rivne, as well as the Lviv Agglomeration, on organising citizens’ assemblies in 2025 and 2026 (28 October, 13:00, Lobby of the Hemicycle); a panel discussion with Belarusian democratic forces “When passports become weapons: Local authorities’ response to transnational repression against Belarusians abroad” (29 October, 12:45-14:00, Room 10); and an event organised by the Association of Finnish Cities and Municipalities to explore ways to better involve young children in local democratic life (29 October, 12:45, Room 6).

28 October, Strasbourg – The European Court of Human Rights will notify in writing one ruling concerning Norway.
28-30 October, Budva (Montenegro) – On the occasion of the Court´s Day of Montenegro, the CoE Programme Office in Podgorica jointly with the Supreme Court of Montenegro will organise an event to mark the 75th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights. Some 200-250 judges and other participants will discuss key challenges faced by and future perspectives of the Montenegrin judiciary. The President of Supreme Court, the Minister of Justice, the President of the Judicial Council of Montenegro and the Head of the CoE Programme Office in Podgorica Lejla Dervisagic will speak at the opening. ECHR Vice President Ivana Jelić will be a keynote speaker, and three other ECHR judges will intervene at the event that serves to strengthen co-operation between national courts and the European Court of Human Rights, as well as supreme courts from across the region.
