The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will host the 2025 edition of the Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation at FAO headquarters in Rome, from 29 September to 1 October 2025.
Held under the theme “Fostering Change, Scaling Innovations, Driving Solutions,” the conference will bring together FAO Members, policy makers, private sector representatives, civil society, farmers’ organizations, researchers and development partners to exchange experiences and identify concrete actions to support a more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable livestock sector.
The three-day event will open on 29 September with a keynote address by FAO Director-General QU Dongyu, followed by a high-level ministerial session with the participation of:
* Minister of Livestock and Animal Production of Chad – Abderahim Awat Atteib;
* Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying of India – Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh;
* Minister of Livestock, Forestry and Range of Somalia – Hassan Hussein Mohamed;
* Vice-Minister for Agricultural Health and Regulations of Guatemala – Mayra Motta;
* Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye – Ahmet Bağcı;
* Assistant Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry of Australia – David Garner;
* Assistant Deputy for Livestock and Fisheries of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture of Saudi Arabia – Ali Al-Shaikhi.
The programme will feature plenary discussions, expert panels, pitch sessions and thematic forums focused on climate change mitigation, low-emission livestock systems, animal health and welfare, sustainable feeding and breeding, food security, and the role of innovation in transforming the sector.
A dedicated exhibition will run alongside the conference, featuring concrete solutions, technologies and initiatives that support the transformation of livestock systems. It will highlight examples from countries, the private sector and research institutions, offering participants the opportunity to explore innovations and best practices for building more sustainable and resilient livestock systems.
Building on the outcomes of the first global edition held in 2023 and a series of regional dialogues across Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean, the 2025 conference aims to scale up knowledge exchange and collaboration around sustainable livestock transformation. It is also part of FAO’s “365 Days of Action” campaign, marking the Organization’s 80th anniversary through a series of global initiatives that promote innovation and impact across agrifood systems.
