Eni Storage Systems, joint venture tra Eni e FIB, avvia a Brindisi le attività per lo sviluppo delle batterie al litio stazionarie
Brindisi, 24 settembre 2025 – Eni e Seri Industrial annunciano che Eni Storage Systems, joint venture costituita da Eni (50% più un’azione) e Fib (50% meno un’azione), società appartenente al gruppo Seri Industrial, ha iniziato l’operatività per proseguire lo sviluppo del progetto industriale relativo alla produzione di batterie al litio stazionarie già avviato nell’area industriale di Brindisi.
Eni Storage Systems ha come obiettivo la realizzazione di un polo per la produzione di oltre 8 GWh/anno di batterie litio ferro fosfato su base acquosa, destinate prevalentemente ad accumuli stazionari di energia elettrica. Oggi il progetto è nella fase di ingegneria e di valutazioni economiche, finanziarie e autorizzative, attività che sono previste concludersi entro il primo trimestre 2026, per passare subito dopo alla fase esecutiva.
Il progetto, annunciato il 25 ottobre 2024, è parte del piano di trasformazione industriale che Eni sta realizzando per contribuire a uno sviluppo industriale improntato a una sempre maggiore sostenibilità dal punto di vista ambientale, sociale ed economico e conferma la partnership tra Eni e Seri Industrial che prevede la gestione integrata del sito di Brindisi con l’impianto che Fib sta realizzando a Teverola, nella provincia di Caserta.
A Brindisi saranno anche concentrate le attività di produzione della materia attiva catodica – il litio-ferro-fosfato che nel catodo immagazzina e rilascia ioni di litio durante i cicli di carica e scarica – e di assemblaggio delle batterie in sistemi BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems), a servizio sia della produzione di Brindisi, sia di quella di Teverola. In prospettiva, nel sito di Brindisi si aggiungerà anche l’attività di riciclo delle batterie che, insieme alla produzione della materia attiva catodica, sarà disponibile anche per altri operatori del settore. Seri industrial ed Eni aspirano a conquistare oltre il 10% del mercato europeo delle batterie stazionarie, creando un polo integrato tra Brindisi e Teverola all’avanguardia, che punti a una maggiore sostenibilità e proiettato alla transizione energetica.

Eni Storage Systems, a joint venture between Eni and FIB, launches activities in Brindisi to develop stationary lithium batteries
Brindisi, 24 September 2025 – Eni and Seri Industrial announce that Eni Storage Systems, a joint venture established by Eni (50% plus one share) and Fib (50% minus one share), a Seri Industrial subsidiary, has begun the operations in the development of industrial project for the production of stationary lithium batteries in the Brindisi industrial area.
Eni Storage Systems aims to establish a hub capable of producing over 8 GWh per year of lithium-iron-phosphate batteries, primarily intended for stationary energy storage, using a water-based process. The project is currently in the engineering phase and undergoing economic, financial and authorisation assessments, which are expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2026, before moving into the execution phase.
Announced on 25 October 2024, the project is part of Eni’s industrial transformation plan, which aims to support industrial development based on ever-increasing environmental, social and economic sustainability and confirms the partnership between Eni and Seri Industrial in the integrated management of the Brindisi site, together with the plant that Fib is building in Teverola (in the province of Caserta). At the Brindisi site, industrial activities will also include the production of cathode active material – a lithium-iron-phosphate that stores and releases lithium ions in the cathode during charge and discharge cycles – as well as the assembly of batteries into BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems), serving both the Brindisi and Teverola facilities. In future, the Brindisi site will also implement battery recycling, which, together with the production of cathode active material, will be available to other operators in the sector. Seri Industrial and Eni aim to gain more than 10% of the European stationary battery market, creating an integrated, state-of-the-art hub between Brindisi and Teverola to drive sustainability and the energy transition.
