(AGENPARL) - Roma, 23 Settembre 2025(AGENPARL) – Tue 23 September 2025 EU–Indonesia Trade Agreement: A major step forward for the EU’s diversification agenda
(Brussels, 23 September 2025)
After nine years and 19 rounds of negotiations, the European Union and Indonesia have successfully concluded negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) today.
Reacting to the announcement, BusinessEurope Director General Markus J. Beyrer said:
“This landmark Agreement reaffirms the EU’s commitment to an ambitious trade agenda at a time of geopolitical tensions and rising protectionism.
Although Indonesia is the largest economy in Southeast Asia and the world’s fourth most populous country, it is only the EU’s fifth trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and 33rd globally. This Agreement will significantly boost the EU’s growth by reducing tariffs on industrial goods and agricultural products on both sides, and includes key provisions for digital trade, procurement, and investment. As a key supplier of critical raw materials, closer ties with Indonesia will also be a major asset in the EU’s economic security and resilience.
Building on this achievement, BusinessEurope urges both sides to take the necessary steps for swift ratification of this Agreement and to accelerate negotiations with other ASEAN partners.”
